The following image shows all Matilda Petersons in Illinois in 1870.  Our Matilda should have been 13 or 14 in 1870.  However, the 12 year old Matilda living in Galeburg seems like a good match, as we know that is where our Matilda married A.J. in 1877, and we don't yet have any record of her living elsewhere in Illinois.

Interestingly, none of the Carl's or "C"'s living in Illinois in 1870 seem to match that Matilda.  This casts doubt on [[Carl J. Peterson]] as being Matilda's father.

The Galesburg portion of the 1870 Illinois Census shows a Matilda of the right age (13 years old), who is presumably the same Matilda as above.  The parents in this household appear to be "Swan Peterson" (Male; 40 years old; R. R. Laborer) and "Sophia Peterson" (Female; 35 years old; "Keeping Home").  Matilda has three younger siblings: Anna (Female; 12 years old), Fridrich? (Male; 8 years old), and Mary (Female; 4 years old).  All in the household are listed as being born in Sweden.
