Historical Records

  • Possible match for Jean's immigration in 1900:
    • Place of last residence: Paris
    • Departed from: Havre
    • Arrived in New York City on Nov 25, 1900 aboard "La Lorraine" (the day before his 20th birthday)
    • Student
    • Final destination: New York
    • Paid his own ticket fare
    • Was headed to his cousin's (name very difficult to read): Seth/Josh/Jeff/John Golden. Eldric Street 83. (User:Jim.lindstrom: It's possible this is 83 Eldridge Street, NY, NY in the Lower East Side.)
    • There is a record of this on Ellis Island as well
  • There is an interesting record in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763–1900. It lists a "Max Bernstein" rather than "Jean" or "Eugene", but the timing and location are about right, and the bride's name is right:
Groom Bride Date Vol./Page License No. County
BERNSTEIN, MAX SIMON, MINNIE 1901-02-17 322200 COOK
