Bernstein Family[edit]

Knowledge of the Bernstein and their descendants come principally from a family tree assembled by Adolph Bernstein and from primary materials (public census records, etc) found online (e.g., on Ancestry.com).

Through these sources we know that the Bernstein family traces its American roots to Jean Bernstein, who immigrated from Romania to Elgin, Illinois in 1900, and from and Minnie Simon, who immigrated from either Poland or Austria to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1900. Jean and Minnie married in approximately 1901 and raised a family in Elgin, Illinois. Jean's parents Avram Bernstein and Chia ("Carolina") Rosenberg, lived in Romania in the mid- to late-1800s.
