Ruth Eleanor Vaughn, 84, of Kearney died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Ruth was born July 17, 1927, in rural Shelton to Henry F. and Ruby E. (Oliver) Graper.

On Jan. 16, 1947, she married Lee Vaughn in Shelton.

Survivors are: husband Lee Vaughn; Virginia Evans, who has been like a daughter, and her close friend, Ron Wick, both of Kearney; brother, Donald Graper and his wife, Shirley, of Wood River; sister, Helen Burelson of Anchorage, Alaska; and sister-in-law, Alberta Vaughn of Omaha.

Ruth was raised in Shelton and received her education at Shelton High School. Following her graduation, Ruth attended beautician school in Holdrege.

Ruth and Lee were married at Shelton Methodist Church.

Ruth was always by Lee's side as she handled the books for the farm. Ruth will be remembered by her family as the family historian, a wonderful seamstress and, of course, her ability to bake and cook.

Ruth was a member of First Lutheran Church of Kearney and an active member in the W.E.L.C.A.

Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Graper; sister, Pauline Stenehjem; sister-in-law, Aline Lindstrom; and brothers-in-law, Irving Vaughn and his wife, Mildred, and Kenneth Vaughn and his wife, Cornelia.

Burial was in the Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, NE.
