  • From a note to Keith Anderson from Henry Renshult, Bergsgatan 19, 576 00 SAVSJO, Sweden: Lena Magnusdotter and Magnus Peterson in Klinthult became poor. There had come tuberculose in the family. And besides they had a gin-shop, and Magnus drank a little too much. That was not anything special for that family. The normal death for a man over 30 in those days was to die from alcohol. Oskar Karlsson in Klinthult, Agneta's (Henry's wife) grandfather, was 13 years old when Lena died. Once I asked him, how they took care of all old people, who lived in small cottages in Klinthult. And he answered: That wouldn't we, that people when they were gathered around the church on Sundays, that they could say: in Klinthult they are so stingy that they cannot take care of their paupers. When my mother had baked we should always go to Inn-Lena with bread, and when we had slaughtered we should go with meat and sausages. And we chopped her firewood and put down and took (picked) up her potatoes and give her milk. And Otto helped her sometimes. And she had her cousin's children on Bäckanäs, only 300 meters from her cottage.
