LINCOLN — Derek Glen Schroeder, 32, of Wilcox died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Revs. Steve and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be at Hildreth Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Jelden-Craig Funeral Home in Hildreth.
He was born Nov. 6, 1980, in Kearney to Larry and Rhonda (Moda) Schroeder.
——
Survivors include his parents of Wilcox; brother, Dustin Schroeder of Holdrege; sister, Danielle Schroeder of Wilcox; grandparents, Glen and Addie Schroeder and Dean and Janice Lindstrom, all of Kearney; aunts, uncles and cousins; Melinda Eltiste, a very special friend; and so many friends.
He was baptized on Jan. 25, 1981, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. He was confirmed on June 4, 1995, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hildreth.
Derek graduated in 1999 from Wilcox Public School and continued his education at Southeast Community College at Beatrice until he was hospitalized in 2002. Derek had endured a tragedy that would make many people mean and bitter toward the world. Derek was nothing of the kind. He was strong and kind regardless of the constant reminder of his tragic accident. Derek overcame obstacles that many of us wouldn’t have the strength to approach.
He had such a kind heart and sweet smile. He left his mark on everyone he encountered. His strength and kindness were contagious. Derek was hurt in one of the worst ways, and you couldn’t tell even on his worst days. If you were having a bad day, he would make sure you left with a smile. He was so selfless and loving. He was such an inspiration to all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Francis Schroeder; and great-grandparents and great-uncles and great-aunts.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
