Born on a farm near Shelby, Shelby county, Iowa; educated in country schools and Shelby high school; graduated from Iowa State College in Animal Husbandry in 1924; took a postgraduate course at Colorado State College in Animal Nutrition 1924-'25; taught a herdsman course at Iowa State College in 1926; acted as county agent in Carbon county, Wyoming, in 1927; for twelve years was field representative for the Iowa Horse and Mule Breeders' Association, resigning to accept appointment as assistant secretary of agriculture in 1939, which post he held until he assumed the duties of secretary; is well known in livestock circles throughout America as a competent judge, trainer and importer of horses; married to Mae B. Martin of Patterson, Iowa, July 16, 1932; is a member of the American Legion, Methodist Church and Masonic order.

  • Harry (age 18) registered for the WWI draft in 1918. It lists him as a farmer.
  • On May 11, 1944, the Council Bluffs Nonpareil wrote about a letter Harry wrote to other Iowa leaders titled "Iowa Department Blasts Agencies"
  • On April 21, 1944, the Council Bluffs Nonpareil reported on, "State Secretary of Agriculture Harry Linn" implementing a regulation about catsup manufacturing and processing.
  • On March 25, 1952, the Harlan News Advertiser wrote, "Harry Linn, former secretary of agriculture for Iowa, and former Shelby high school student, will be speaker on April 4 for the annual FFA Parent and Son banquet. Linn is now executive secretary of the Iowa Manufacturers association."
  • Harry died in July 1978, according to the Social Security Death Index
  • Harry received an obituary notice in the American Rifleman.
