Another researcher on RootsWeb found a record of Johannes[3]:

Germany, Württemberg, Althausen (OA. Mergentheim) - Church records Kirchenbuch, 1649-1876 Evangelische Kirche Neunkirchen (OA. Mergentheim) Mikrofilme aufgeommen vom Manuskripten im Landeskirchliches Archiv. Parish registers of baptisms, marriages, burials for Neunkirchen, Württemberg, Germany. Includes Althausen Family Book 221 The name given for him as father of the family is Johannes. His name is not Johann Leonhard, that is the name of his third child.

Pat Phipps and Dennis Linn researched the Volkerts in 2013 and discovered some family documents listing an address for the Volkerts of Dr.-Goll Str. 3, 97980 Bad Mergentheim, Althausen, Germany.

According to Pat[4], who traveled to the site, "the original house and shed have been replaced, but on the same foundation and built to look like the original. The barn is original. Dennis had an old street map and by going to Google Earth we were able to figure out the address. He also had floor plans of the property. I was also lucky enough to find three distant cousins and have conversations with them."

Family

Johannes and Katharina had 14 children. Nine of these children seem to have immigrated to the US:

  • Georg and Andreas both immigrated to the US, and both appear in Paw Paw, Illinois in the 1880s and 1890s[5], and Ida, Iowa in the 1900s.[6].
  • Anna Rosina appears in Paw Paw, as well.[7]. Rosina supposedly came in 1879[8] along with younger brother Andreas[9].
  • Michael Andrew (aka Michael Andreas?) appears in Illinois[10].
  • George Volkert died in Cushing[11].
  • Karl Volkert died in Cushing[12]
  • Jacob Volkert died in USA[13]
  • Kathrina Eliabeth died in USA[14]
  • Johann George came to the US in 1881[15], and buried in Cushing Cemetery in 1925[16]

6 Volkerts born in the 19th century are buried in the Cushing Cemetery.[17]
