Obituary[edit]
OURAY HERALD [Colorado] April 17, 1903 Passed to His Reward William Woodruff, aged 81 years passed peacefully to his reward yesterday morning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P.F. [Mary] Brockway in Ridgway [Colorado]. He had lived a long and useful life and enjoyed the friendship and high esteem of all with whom he came in contact. Death was due to heart failure and , when summoned he was ready to go. By his pure and upright life the grave was robbed of its terrors and death its sting, a smile of sweet peace being expressed in his feature after he had closed his eyes in death.
Five children survive him, of whom two, C. T. [Comely] Woodruff and Mrs. P. F. Brockway live at Ridgway. With them he came to spend the remainder of his days about 3 years ago coming direct from the old home in Iowa. The funeral services will take place today and interment will be in Dallas Park Cemetery. [No stone was found in 2008.]

- In the 1860 census they lived in Johnson Co. Iowa with Mary, Leonora, Warren W., Sarah E., Comley, and John W. John W. Steel, son of a neighbor lived with them and is listed as a farm laborer.
- In the 1870 census, William was living in Johnson Co. Iowa with Huldah (second wife) and Warren W. Two of William's children, John and Leonora were living nearby with John W. Steel and his wife Jane, who was Hannah Morris's sister--aunt of the children. Apparently John W. and Jane had no children of their own.
- In 1880 William lived with his daughter Leonora (Nora) and her husband Joseph Luckey and family in Washington Co. Iowa--just south of Johnson Co.
