Immigration[edit]

One account of Andreas's immigration[6] says:

Due to the death of his father when he was very young he was compelled to make his way in the world as soon as he completed his schooling. He worked near Neckaran on the banks of the Rhine. He also work as a mason. He emigrated to America in 1879 and settled at PawPaw, Illinois with his sister, Rosina & her family.

Passenger lists (See "Historical Records" section, below) from both Hamburg and New York confirm the 1879 date.
